June, Austin Style: A Month of Festivals, Food, and Fun

Average temperature low and high: 22°-38°
When June rolls around, Austin dons its party hat. Blessed by a thermostat that knows only tropical vibes, it chills at 72.1°F and turns up the heat to 91.2°F. This is when Austin throws a festival potluck. You've got everything from the TV-binge-worthy ATX Television Festival to the cinematic smorgasbord of the Austin Asian American Film Festival. And let's not forget Juneteenth, Austin's tribute to African American heritage, which is less a commemoration and more a city-wide party. With weather that plays nice and events that play loud, Austin in June is a magnet for the fun-seekers and sun-seekers alike.

Things to Do in Austin in June

The Museum of the Weird

The Museum of the Weird
The unofficial motto of Austin is “Keep Austin Weird.” This 6th Street museum is certainly at the center of that. A throwback to the roadside attractions of the past, Museum of the Weird is a one-stop spot for the strange. Collected over decades, the Museum of the Weird has classic oddities like Fiji Mermaids, wax museum figures of classic movie monsters and famous sideshow performers.

Zilker Park

Zilker Park
A daylong adventure unto itself and absolutely beloved by the locals, Zilker Park is a vast green space in the middle of one of the fastest-growing cities in the country. It is the home to the Barton Spring Pool, the Zilker Nature Preserve, a statue garden, and botanical gardens, all situated on the Colorado River's cool waters.
