Hike to the Top of Mount Bonnell

Hike to the Top of Mount Bonnell
Mount Bonnell is perfect for those who love a short but intense hike. Most people climb the 102 stairs in about 11 minutes but stay a lot longer for the picturesque views of the Colorado River and the greenery below. There's also a view deck and pavilion up top for your convenience. At 781 feet high, Mount Bonnell is perfect for picnics as well, though it's best to pack lots of sunscreen since Austin is almost always sunny.

Spot Some Peacocks at Mayfield Park

Spot Some Peacocks at Mayfield Park
Picnics and peacocks go hand-in-hand at Mayfield Park, where you'll be treated to several easy trails that weave through the naturalistic beauty of Austin, Texas. The lake trail is quite popular as it provides scenic views of a lake and a short distance of .30 miles. Peacocks are, of course, the star of the show here, and you're bound to see plenty of them while birding or walking around Mayfield Park, which also offers free admission.
