Spend Valentines Day Month Snuggled in Austin
Visiting Austin in February has its advantages. Being one of the coldest months of the year, you’ll miss the thick humidity that the city is known for. Despite the weather change, there are still a ton of fun activities that are available even in the heart of winter. Some annual events may change or be different due to the COVID-19 virus, but we will continue to update this page with any new information that organizers may release.

OUTsider Fest

Through many different kinds of mediums including music, film, performance art, writing, and more, the OUTsider Fest challenges the norm of festivals as we know it. Through meaningful collaborations from queer artists, the festival encourages thoughtful dialogue between artists, scholars, and the general public. The full festival lineup and official dates are TBA. In response to COVID-19, organizers say that OUTsider 2021 will likely be a hybrid happening, with several small socially-distanced events and a series of UNCOMMON, interactive, intimate online experiences.
Carnaval Brasileiro

Dubbed as the largest carnaval celebration outside Brazil, join thousands of Austinites who come together to take part in the annual festivities. The festival started out as a humble celebration among homesick Brazilian UT students who wanted a way to celebrate even while hundreds of miles from home. Forty-plus years later, and now it’s one of the wildest parties that Austin has to offer. Carnaval 2021 is in the planning stages, but organizers say that with so many unknowns regarding the COVID-19 virus, they are unsure of its posssibility. We will update this post with any new information that they provide.
Austin Marathon, Half-Marathon, & 5K

Whether you’re braving the cold and participating in the running festivities or just looking to cheer on the athletes from the sidelines (preferably with a hot chocolate in hand), the Austin Marathon and Half Marathon races are a sight to behold. The course zigzags through the heart of downtown Austin with plenty to see and do along the way. Be sure to check out the Finish Line festival which will feature a beer garden, live music, and, in true Austin fashion, food trucks!
Things to Do in Austin in February

Broken Spoke
When in Texas, do as the Texans do. Eat good barbecue, gather with friends, and of course, go to an authentic honky tonk bar. Dubbed as the “Best Little Texas Honky Tonk in Texas,” the Broken Spoke doesn’t disappoint. You can take line dancing classes, eat chicken fried steak, and listen to some of the very best live music that Austin has to offer. It’s conveniently located on South Lamar Boulevard, about a 10-minute drive from downtown.
