New Orleans gets Back to Partying in Time to Celebrate the Fourth of July

Average temperature low and high: 76°-92°
July in New Orleans is hot and steamy, so pack light. Despite the summer heat, July is one of the busiest and most enjoyable months in the Big Easy. COVID restrictions are loosening, and the city is open for business again. Hence, options are available to keep cool indoors, such as restaurants and bars that can now be open longer and to fuller capacities.

Running of the Bulls

Running of the Bulls

Throw on your all-white outfit (with a hint of red) and join thousands for  New Orleans’ version of Spain’s Encierro de Pamplona, but there’s one key difference. Instead of bulls chasing participants through Spain, roller derby girls dress as bulls, spank you with plastic or padded bats, and chase you through the French Quarter. This event is for early birds; registration includes a pre-party near the Sugar Mill that starts at 6:30 am. There will be live music, beer, sangria, and food trucks to get things going; the run begins at 8 am.

Bastille Day Fete in New Orleans

Bastille Day Fete in New Orleans

Bastille Day is commemorated in New Orleans on the closest Saturday preceding the 14th of July. The Big Easy is proud of its French heritage, so this Bastille Day Fête is a huge celebration that you won’t want to miss! A block party is held in the 3100 block of Ponce de Leon Street in the city’s historic Faubourg St. John neighborhood. The festivity will feature live music, food and drinks, costumes, art, games, and more!

Satchmo Summerfest

Blues, jazz, and delicious food sums up the Satchmo SummerFest! This annual New Orleans event is to celebrate one of the city’s most well-known, native sons, Louis “Satchmo” Armstrong. This 3-day event will have live performers and a lot of good food. In previous years, admission fees have been $5 and purchasable at the gate. Info about tickets for 2021 will be available soon.
