Beaches Open Up to the Public this Month in Chicago

Average temperature low and high: 53°-66°
May is the perfect month to visit if you are looking to enjoy warmer temperatures without being uncomfortably hot. Although masking and social distancing protocols are in place, parks and public spaces are open. Specifically, this month is when beaches should open up, so head out to enjoy some fun under the sun. Some annual events may be postponed or different because of COVID-19, we will update this page with any new information in the coming weeks released by organizers.

Chicago Symphony Center: Muti Conducts Montgomery & Beethoven Pastoral

Enjoy a beautiful and explosive performance from the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. The orchestra will be led by Riccardo Muti, with pieces composed by Jessie Montgomery, the orchestra's new Mead Composer-in-Residence, as well as classics from Beethoven. Tickets prices range from $38-$254, and they can be purchased online.

If you're an art lover, make sure you take a visit to Wilder Park as it's transformed into an art show and filled with crafts. This 2-day event attracts over 10,000 attendees and over 100 artists selling their pieces. Rain or shine, the massive art show will also feature live music entertainment, admission is free for all ages.

Don't miss the world’s 1st running music festival come to Chicago! Night Nation Run is a 5k with electronic dance music and an illuminated racecourse equipped with lights and lasers. Participants will make their way through the course, stopping at multiple DJ stages set up along the way, and then finish at an explosive main-stage after party, featuring top EDM DJs and celebrity performers. Early bird ticket prices are $34.99, full price tickets are $60.

Moon Runners Festival is a 2-day fest that will feature live punk, country, and roots music performances from local and nationally-recognized artists. Headliners for 2022 include The Rumjacks, The Goddamn Gallows, HarleyPoe, Pinata Protest, and more. Attendees must be 21+. Two-day passes for the festival are $90; purchase tickets and view the weekend's full lineup online.

Check out the WhiskyFest Chicago for the opportunity to taste whiskey from around the world. This longest-running and best-attended whiskey festival in the U.S will feature rare pours, local as well as national expert distillers and blenders, seminars, and tasty eats.

The Legions Of Metal Festival will feature high-energy performances by classic metal bands from the 80s and newer talents as well. This year's lineup will feature The Rods, Fifth Angel, Vain, Morgul Blade, and many more. Two-day general admission passes are $79 and $120 for VIP passes. Single-day passes start at $40, and after-9 pm passes are available for $20 on Friday and $25 on Saturday. Purchase tickets and find additional information online.

Chicago is home to 200 microbreweries, so craft beer is a big deal here. With that said, you won't want to miss the annual Craft Beer Festival, which will feature beer samples from over 35 breweries. This year it will be held at a new location: Peoria from Fulton to Lake Street. All tickets are $29.99, you can register online to reserve one.

Get ready to rock for 3 days straight at Chicago's annual Mayfest. For the past 25 years, the music fest has served as the kick-off for the city's lively summer festival season. It will be held in the heart of Lincoln Park at Armitage at Sheffield. Enjoy live music performances, food, beer, and more. Experience a magical evening at the only American-themed sky lantern festival. In addition to sky lanterns that will illuminate the night sky, there will be bonfires, food and drinks, smores and smores cocktails, and live music performances at the Chicago Sky Lantern Festival. Festival vendors will only accept contactless payments through google pay, apple pay, klarna, etc. Kids' passes are $55 for children and $125 for adults.
